ICANN Update Requires your Attention

Dear hostinginindia.com Customer,

At hostinginindia.com we would like to inform you of a very important announcement that requires your attention. The following update is being completed by ICANN, the global regulator for all generic domain names. We recommend that you become familiar with these forthcoming changes which will take effect on January 1st, 2014. This could potentially impact domain websites and emails. The key changes are as follows:

1. Beginning January 1st, 2014 valid WHOIS data will be required for all generic domain name (gTLD). We will need to ensure that all fields within the Registrant, Admin, and Tech contact fields are complete.

2. In addition to requiring complete WHOIS data, effective January 1st, 2014, ICANN mandates that the address, telephone, and email address, needs to be properly formatted.

Validate that all email addresses are in the proper format.
Validate that telephone numbers are in the proper format according to The International Public Telecommunication Numbering Plan for international telephone numbers (or its equivalents or successors).
Validate that postal addresses are in a proper format for the applicable country or territory as defined in UPU Postal addressing.

3. The email address of a registrant will need to be validated upon the purchase, transfer or modification of the WHOIS data within a domain name (unless that email address has already been validated). Should any of these three things occur, our Registrar, will send an email (similar to a transfer) requiring an affirmative response. Failing to receive a response within 15 days may result in a suspension of the domain name.

4. The same validation process will take place if a WHOIS Data Reminder Policy (WDRP) notice, 30 day expiration notice or 5 day expiration notice bounces. It will therefore be of paramount importance to ensure that the contact email addresses for your domain name are up-to-date at all times. This also takes effect January 1, 2014.

5. ICANN has also mandated a new, consistent WHOIS output format for all generic Top Level Domains (gTLDs). Our WHOIS output has already changed to follow this new format

Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I look up what my domain WHOIS information is?

We suggest looking up your WHOIS information here: http://www.who.is/. Please note if you have WHOIS Privacy/Contact Privacy enabled, you may not see your actual contact details in the public WHOIS records.

My Information is out of date, how do I update it?

I no longer have access to the email address listed, how can I make this change?

If this is a domain name registered to an individual you will need to include:

a) A clear copy of a government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license or passport

b) Send this information to our Technical Support Team at support@hostinginindia.com

2. If this is a domain name registered to an organization you will need to include:

a) This request printed on company letterhead (alternatively, you can make a written request on letterhead and including the same information on this page)

b) Business Registration or Incorporation documents issued by your government that bears the name of the requestor

c) A clear copy of a government-issued Photo ID (driver’s license/passport) connecting the Organization to the Requestor listed in the registration documents

d) Send this information to our Technical Support Team at support@hostinginindia.com

What will happen if my domain name is suspended?

When a domain name is suspended it will be placed on “Client Hold” and the DNS will be pointed to the Registration provider, not to the hosting provider. This will result in an interruption of any websites or email services based on the domain name. Once the domain is verified, the DNS changes will be reverted.

Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns about this, we’ll be happy to help.
